Far more than just a straightforward travel magazine and much more of a coffee-table piece, Flourish is a biannual travel and lifestyle publication focusing its content around outdoor living, nature, culture and sustainability. These are thick volumes printed on high quality paper with some absolutely stunning photography. Started by UK-based photographer and designer Lucy Saunders and centred on a photographic approach, the publication contains photo-essays, interviews, evocative descriptions of different geographies and personal stories of adventure, all reflecting Lucy’s passion for travel and ecological adventures, exploring the natural world and documenting new places. Flourish is all about thriving in a particular place, community or culture, and flourishing in the outdoors. Each volume is set around one place and aims to give the reader a real insight into the life that is lived there and the nature that surrounds it from the point of view of the editors’ own experiences, thoughts and feelings.

Volume 2 – A Snippet of Britain showcases a few of the editors’ favourite spots in Britain, from The Isle of Skye and Skomer Islands to the Brecon Beacons and Cornwall, with many more places in between. It includes interviews with florist Grace Alexander about what life is really like living in a thatched cottage in a chocolate-box British village and designer Amelia Hopegood about setting up a creative business from scratch. There are articles on travel from the wilds of Scotland to more cosmopolitan Bath, about camping under the stars to holing up in a luxury bolthole complete with spa and swimming pool, pieces on growing your own and studies of the native flora and fauna that can be found across Britain, all accompanied by breathtaking photography and stunning illustrations. An ideal gift, more so than ever this year when we are all more island-bound, this will shine a light on the beauty that is to be found just a stone’s throw from our own front doors. Who needs the Med, anyway?!

However, I wanted to take a slower pace, admire what was really surrounding me and immerse myself into the beautiful and stunning landscapes which make up the Great British Isles.
